It's so bad, but it's so good. Coming from a university in Los Angeles and growing up in Silicon Valley, going to China Moon was the gastronomical equivalent of getting hit by a car. And yet, I find myself here again and again, needing that inescapable fix of greasy fried tofu, stir fry, and fried shrimp. I would advise against the teriyaki foods, but the tofu really is pretty great, and the egg rolls are well done. Prices are exceptionally cheap for buffet food - but please don't make my mistake of taking advantage of that. To top it off, is a classic fruit and soft serve bar to wash away the torrents of grease-encrusted guilt in your mouth at the end of be night. The food is buffet style, and a really nice lady is always there to help you out if you want stuff reheated or refills or really, any casual conversation. I'd really love never to have been seen here, but they really do offer exceptional service for the buffet. Not to mention the two white kids going apeshit bananas at the presence of sushi (kappa maki) at a Chinese restaurant. Gold.

No. We went there because it was one of the only lunch places open on a Sunday and I was happy to have something that wasn't Sonic. The food was cold. Almost all of it (the only things that weren't cold were the white rice straight from the rice cooker and the stuff in the warming tray like chicken nuggets and egg rolls). I genuinely thought at first that maybe there was a problem with their heating trays so I mentioned it to the waitress. Her response was that I didn't stir the food before I got some and if I stirred it, the bottom would be warm. I'm not a chef and I've never worked in a restaurant before but that response sat uncomfortably with me and even if the bottom was "warm", the top would still be cold. The food handling lesson I got in my junior high cooking class many moons ago tells me that's not safe.

Folks, this Chinese restaurant is in New Mexico. If you want great go to San Francisco or Los Angeles. If you want bad 1 star go to Espanola. Otherwise, it is ok if you need Chinese. The buffet was clean and the staff friendly. The food basic Cantonese.

The friendly and welcoming staff accommodated our group of 12 tired and dirty hikers even though we came near closing time on a Sunday night. There were quite a few other small groups/couples dining there as well. Since we came so late, much of the buffet trays were empty or close to empty. They cooked extra food for us. I liked their hot and sour soup. Their fruit also seemed fresh. The rest of the items were typical Chinese buffet fare. Some of the items looked oily so I didn't try everything. The buffet is cheap at only $10/adult for dinner. I generally don't like buffets but China Moon's dinner buffet items tasted better than the average Chinese buffet in my hometown of Austin, Texas.

This is the worst food I have ever had. I ordered General Tso's chicken for take out, the worst chicken I have ever had. I couldn't finish it. It taste like it was a week old and the chicken was hard and looked awful. I though since I ordered off the menu it would be made fresh... not at all. I don't understand how anyone can eat there. Please trust this review and avoid this place at all cost! :( But if your still interested in tasting the food for yourself no need to wast any money just put some old chicken in the microwave for about five minutes until its hard and brown. Then put it in your refrigerator for about a week and then reheat...Bon appetit your eating food from china moon.

Came to this place with Erik (reviewer just below me) and even if we weren't together and I was by myself, I would say this place is not so bad considering it is Los Alamos. I am visiting here for a week and was looking for a Subway (which existed last year) and ended up finding this place. At first, we were a bit hesitant to go in as there was no one else inside. But we mustered up the courage (and since wewere really hungry) to go inside. The customers started coming in so we felt more comfortable. The food was not bad at all, considering it is in Los Alamos and there are dozens of this places in Cali. I think it is a worth a shot and we are even considering of going there right now as I am typing this.

greasy Chinese buffet with fully Americanized "Chinese" food.. Often full at lunch with people on a mission to become (more) obese. Popular because it is cheap .. but that is about the only positive feature..

Best Chinese buffet in Los Alamos. Of course, that ain't saying much. Stick to lunch time when turnover is high enough that the food hasn't been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour.

I ate here without checking Yelp.The other reviews sum this place up well. There are restaurants in Los Alamos more deserving of your money. The food is not good even for a buffet, being tasteless and greasy. Other than the cheap price goodness knows why the locals eat here, there is at least one other Chinese restaurant in town.

Mediocre or worse chinese buffet. They can't even make good rice. I go there unfortunately frequently due to the fact that it's the most kid friendly restaurants in Los Alamos. The good: The hot and sour soup is actually better than average, being both hot and sour. For a buffet, the service is friendly and helpful. The bad: Everything else is standard, boring and bland. Quite a few of the items are obviously prepackaged and reheated.

Don't eat here! My family and I stopped for a quick lunch, because it was in the plaza next to the science museum. All four of us got sick after eating there, and my son was so dehydrated from nonstop vomiting that we had to take him to the ER for IV fluids. The diagnosis: gastroenteritis (food poisoning).
